Description

This listing is for an Awarness bracelet with your own choice of coloured suede, centrepiece and charm!

Awareness Ribbons, a commonly seen 21st Century phenomenon, were created to increase general public awareness of a particular illness, disability or condition, and to gather support for its sufferers.
The meaning behind the awareness ribbon depends on its colour or colours.
Every day, new coloured ribbons are added to the growing list of internationally recognised conditions. Different groups and organisations have adopted particular ribbons as symbols of support or awareness, and as a result, various causes may share the same, or similiar, ribbon colour, with the coloured ribbon often becoming synonymous with the condition itself eg the pink ribbon which denotes breast cancer awareness.
Wearing one of these bracelets is a simple way to show your support for a specific cause, or perhaps even to indicate that you are suffering from that particular condition yourself.

Each awareness bracelet is made from different coloured faux suede, according to the condition it represents .
The bracelet can be made in any size required, and is fully adjustable with an extension chain. Just let me know the size you require by contacting me via the ‘Message to Seller’ option.
PLEASE NOTE: If no size is chosen, then your bracelet will be made to fit an average sized female wrist at 7 inches.

Below is a list of regularly used colours, along with some of the conditions they represent.

I am able to offer the following colours and conditions:

Red: AIDS
Light Pink: Breast Cancer
Deep Purple: Fibromyalgia, Chron’s, ADHD
Light Purple: General Cancer, Epilepsy
Black/White: EDS
Orange: MS, Lupus Awareness
Blue: Arthritis, Huntingdon’s Disease, Prostate Cancer
Light Blue: CFS/ME
Green: Mental Health, Kidney disease, Cerebral Palsy
Gray: Asthma, Diabetes
Blue/grey: Type1 Diabetes

If the colour/condition you require is not mentioned, please do contact me and I’ll do my best to help.
It probably just means that I’m unaware of this colour/condition.

Sometimes a condition is represented by two colours, eg white and black symbolising EDS, in which case the two tone effect can be created by making the bracelet half black and half white.
See listing photographs for examples of these different centrepiece options, along with examples of available colours and mixed colours.

The suede band attaches to a silver tone centrepiece.
You may choose the infinity symbol, to represent the universality of the condition, and to emphasise that this condition is something that affects the sufferer each hour of each and every day.
Or you can choose to replace the infinity symbol with an affirmation ring with the word STRENGTH or SURVIVOR stamped on it, in recognition of the strength it takes to battle with the condition each day, or to show you are surviving the battle!
Alternatively, I also offer affirmation rings with the words “Hope, Love, Cure” or “Hope, Love, Faith”.

See listing photographs for examples of these different centrepiece options, along with examples of available colours and mixed colours.

Additionally, a charm is added as a finishing touch, either representative of the condition itself, eg a Zebra could be added for EDS awareness, or a specific colour or a general awareness ribbon charm. Alternatively, you may prefer a ‘spoony’ charm, which refers to the ‘Spoon Theory’ an explanation to help others understand how living with a chronic condition can affect a sufferer.

Please choose your preferences from the drop down menu, and select your charm.

I used to be an active primary school teacher, until problems arising from Congenital Hip Dislocation and Bi Lateral Hip Dysplasia. Shortly after the birth of my children, I developed Severe Arthritis in my left hip. After some time and waiting lists (another story!) I had a hip replacement on my left hip. I returned to work and caring for my family, but the hip was never ‘right’ and still caused issues. To cut a very long story short, after multiple surgeries, eventually a severe bone infection was found. This meant removal of the entire prosthesis and iv antibiotic before replacing the hip again. However, Chronic Pain ensued. And ultimately I was offered the option of total permanent removal of the implant leaving me disabled but without pain. Sadly, that didn’t work out too well, and the same level of pain ensued. I was referred to various PMU and underwent many procedures, and have had a spinal cord stimulator implant.

Gemstones have long been my passion, and I’ve always dabbled making gemstone bracelets and pressing them onto my long suffering friends whenever they mentioned some ailment. It was a natural progression for me, when I had to retire from teaching on medical grounds, to begin making my jewellery to sell. This began simply as a way to keep busy, whilst I was in and out of hospital, and I only ever made items to order for people I knew.. but they were paying me, so I could buy more sparkly rocks!
Now I make all sorts of jewellery, but each item is still made with as much love as those first bracelets, and the recipient is the main focus at the centre of everything I create.
So I’m afraid I don’t have ready made items that I can pop into a Jiffy bag when you order, but I will create a specially commissioned piece just for you!
This story started with me as an active young(ish) mum with a career I loved. Now my children are post University, working and living their own lives, my husband is my carer, and I spend a lot of time in bed!
