Whitby Jet Sterling Silver Ring
I am so proud of this piece. I cut and polished the jet myself and then made the ring setting from scratch by soldering by hand. This piece is completely unique and a one off. Never to be repeated again.
First discovered in the Jurassic era along the coast of North Yorkshire, Whitby jet is naturally formed from the fossilised wood of the Araucaria tree, known today as Monkey Puzzle or Chilean Pine. The fossilisation process is pretty spectacular and extremely slow yet definitely worth the wait! It’s hard to believe but its the pressure of water and sediment over millions of years that compacts the wood from the Monkey Puzzle tree transforming it into the famous black stone that we love today.
The silver in my pieces come under the exemption weight, which is less than 7.78g, so therefore, they don’t require a hallmark. Anything over 7.78g, requires a hallmark by law.
