Description
Unisex black hemp macrame adjustable bracelet with Celtic knot connector.
A unisex adjustable macrame bracelet made using a square knot pattern in black natural hemp cord and a Tibetan silver connector in a Celtic knot design, with Tibetan silver barrel spacer beads. If you prefer a more simplistic design without the spacers (see gallery pictures) then type “PLAIN” into the “finish” option box. Leave this box blank if you like the original design.
This bracelet would be a great gift for males or females with it’s traditional design and as it is adjustable it is “one size fits all (well, most!)”. At its smallest it measures 6.25″ but expands to fit the “average” wrist. (If you would like it larger than average, or as an anklet, please request via the “order note to seller” option when ordering).
*MACRAME*
“Macramé” is a form of textile produced using knotting (rather than weaving or knitting) techniques. The primary knots of macramé are the square knot (a variant of the reef knot) and forms of “hitching”: various combinations of half hitches.
It was long crafted by sailors, especially in elaborate or ornamental knotting forms, to decorate anything from knife handles to BOTTLES to parts of ships.
Macramé jewellery became popular in the early 1970s among the American young and old crowd. Using mainly square knots and granny knots, this jewellery often features handmade glass beads and natural elements such as bone and shell. Necklaces, anklets and bracelets have become popular forms of macramé jewellery.
Materials used in macramé include cords made of cotton twine, linen, hemp, jute, leather or yarn. Jewellery is often made in combination of both the knots and various beads (glass, wooden and so on), pendants or shells. “Friendship” bracelets that are often exchanged amongst schoolchildren are also made using this method.
“Shamballa” bracelets are a style of bracelet, which have been around for centuries. Shamballa bracelets are based on the traditional Catholic Rosary beads and were historically used to assist in meditation.
Real shamballa bracelets are made from shamballa beads which are threaded or knotted onto a cord by macramé knots, these are then pulled to close. The Shamballa beads can be any material from wooden and clay beads, to genuine diamond beads and intricately carved bone beads.
*CELTIC KNOT*
These knots are complete loops that have no start or finish and could be said to represent eternity whether this means loyalty, FAITH, friendship or love. Only one thread is used in each design which symbolises how life and eternity are interconnected. These complex designs are used as decorative accompaniments to a variety of items including jewellery sets, plates, mugs, clothing and even cutlery.
Most scholars believe that Celtic knots were developed for religious and secular purposes. In the Christian era, bible manuscripts, Celtic crosses and jewellery were adorned with these symbols. However, historians are having difficulty ascertaining whether or not there was significance behind each complex design. For the most part, it appears as if the Celts did not have any special meaning for each design as they were typically used as decorations to fill empty spaces such as manuscripts for example. Yet it does seem as if the interlaced designs was a reflection of the Celtic belief in life’s interconnectedness and continuity. In the modern era, some designs have meanings attached to them based on personal interpretation.
The particular design used in this brscelet is called the Dara Knot. It is depicted in a variety of ways but is meant to symbolise an oak tree’s root system. It is representative of personal and spiritual strength. In all likelihood, the Dara knot is a modern creation but it is designed with Celtic knot traditions in mind.
