I started using polymer clay a little over a year ago… I love creating little dragonlings. For me it is therapeutic. I have MS and this helps me… A lot! All of my creations are one of a kind and are very special to me as they show me how much I have achieved in a short space of time and that having MS isn’t going to stop me. Yes, it is debilitating, it does cause a lot of difficulties, I can only sit for short periods of time, I get tired quickly, I suffer with severe pain pretty much every where and it does slow me down, so it’s not easy. I just have to adapt and carry on… I have taught myself many tips and tricks just through sheer determination to get my style right.
The dragonlings have been through so many transitions, using different ways to sculpt them. The eyes have always been a big issue for me, especially trying to hand paint them on. Not good with hand tremors… I have tried many different ways, different paints, beads, gems, none of which I was happy with… until now and I have found my style… Eventually.
These little guys are created using 100% polymer clay. I don’t use tin foil or wire, every one is hand sculpted and lovingly created. They are not perfect but they are unique in every way. I use Sculpey premo, Sculpey Souffle and Fimo polymer clay as my preferred medium. Sculpey is the best one for me as it’s softer, so molds easier. Fimo is tougher but has a better selection of colours…
Having MS has stopped me doing a lot of things but I will not let it take my creativity and my passion for creating these little guys… If anything it makes me more determined to create them. I love them and I hope you do too. I am not doing this to make a business, I do this for me, as a hobby, as my way of escaping and switching off. If people want to purchase one then great… If not then i’ll have a cabinet full of Dragonlings… =D
