Description

This Welsh ‘Cymru’ Dragon book fold would make a perfect keepsake gift for those Welsh family members or friends of yours, or maybe even for yourself. You could show off your heritage by having this book fold on display, to show how proud you are to be Welsh. It would be a perfect gift for St. David’s Day, but also for any other occasion. These book folds are handmade to order and are then decorated in a ribbon of your choice. Below is a list of my current stock of ribbons, however, if none of these tickle your fancy, please let me know in the “Note To Seller” box what colour and design of ribbon you would prefer, so that I can purchase this for you. The book fold can then be wrapped in cellophane if you wish. I have two designs of cellophane, these are; clear and clear with white spots. Again, please let me know in the “Note To Seller” box whether you would like gift wrapping or not, and if so, what design you would like.

My name is Natalie Jones, I am 31 years old, and I have multiple chronic health conditions. I was ill on and off as a child, but nothing was ever diagnosed. I became very unwell at the age of 19, but my GP at the time kept telling me that it was just IBS. When I lost 6 stone in 8 weeks, my Mum kicked off and told the GP that this was not IBS, and that it was time for me to be referred to a specialist. I was misdiagnosed with IBS for 7 months before getting my diagnosis of Crohn’s Disease in 2008. At the time of diagnosis, I was also told that I had a Hiatus Hernia due to the fact that I had been vomiting none stop for 7 months. After a few months, I developed Advanced Osteopenia from steroid use, which was used to control my Crohn’s, and this has now left me with back pain. For the first 3 years, I kind of managed my Crohn’s Disease with medication, but when medication stopped working, I was told that I needed to have bowel surgery, which may or may not have left me with a temporary stoma. I had a third of my large intestine removed and was left with a temporary stoma for 7 months. After 7 months of bowel rest, my stoma was reversed, and I was told that I should get a good 10 years free of symptoms, which I was chuffed about. Unfortunately, the Crohn’s came back within the first month, and was told that I needed to give medication a go again. After 6 months of trying medication, and it not working, my case was discussed with the IBD team, and it was decided that I should have the remainder of my large intestine, rectum and back passage removed, which would, therefore, leave me with a permanent stoma…an Ileostomy. I didn’t like having the stoma the first time round because I was trying to get used to it, but when it was reversed, I kept having accidents, and wished that I had it back. I have been Crohn’s free since my surgery in 2012, but having an ileostomy comes with its own problems, such as; bowel obstructions, leakages, watery output etc. I managed okay for the first few years, but in 2015, I had a bad time, and was sent to Psychiatric Care, and this is where my “Craft Story” really begins…

…I was taught how to book fold in 2015 by an Occupational Therapist whilst I was under Psychiatric Care in a Psychiatric Hospital. I spent 7 months in Hospital, so book folding kept me going really. I started up the business in July 2015, but unfortunately, it didn’t really go anywhere. I tried again in January 2016, but again, it didn’t really go anywhere. I was about to throw it all away, but in April 2017, I decided to try again. I was at a stage where I felt confident enough to start up a small business from home once more. The aim of my business is to display my work online, (both past and present), with a view to selling them should I get much interest. I find book folding highly therapeutic and very rewarding, and I am hoping that I can pass on that feeling to others one day. Now in 2020, I thought that it would be good to FINALLY become a Conscious Craftie and open a shop. I hope that this new venture will be both fun and rewarding, and I hope to make many friends along the way.

Thank you for reading my story 🙂
