Description
Tanzanite and White Topaz Sterling silver ring.
Size N.
Tanzanite is a fairly “new” gemstone, discovered in 1967. It is only found in Tanzania, in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro.
After a gold prospector called Manuel de Souza found a few transparent purple crystals on a ridge near the mountain, the Gemological Institute of America confirmed he had found a previously unknown variety of the mineral zoisite.
According to the Tanzanian Maasai tribe’s lore, tanzanite is a spiritual stone that inspires compassion and calmness.
Topaz actually has an exceptionally wide color range that, besides brown, includes various tones and saturations of blue, green, yellow, orange, red, pink, and purple. Colorless topaz is plentiful, and is often treated to give it a blue color. Topaz is also pleochroic, meaning that the gem can show different colors in different crystal directions.
The silver in my pieces come under the exemption weight, which is less than 7.78g, so therefore, they don’t require a hallmark. Anything over 7.78g, requires a hallmark by law.
