I come from an Artistic family, the most influential person I my life was my late mother. She taught me Art and Design and I even made my first designed set of jewellery at 8yrs. One of my paintings sold for £50 at an exhibition at age 16. The realisation that this will be important later in my life. I had a fall on some ice whilst on way to work. After physio and an MRI scan the real problems of my spine was realised. The pain I had been suffering and because of my high pain threshold the damage had been unchecked. I have Acoustic shock syndrome and underactive thyroid at this time but this added to my disability so much so I lost my job after 11yrs. Then told I’ll never hold a job in the outside workplace. Depression then kicked in. Then one day I found myself at my mother’s place of rest and it was like a flash of lightening. I had Certificates in City&Guilds Silver in 3 years, I had training from my mum in crafts and Design and gems etc. Why dont I get serious, yes I never thought I was good enough as had low self confidence, I decided to turn things around. I now have a “cottage industry” where I design
and create my own jewellery in 925 sterling silver, engrave glass, pyrograph wooden items as well as Crochet, Macrame and Patchwork homewares. I have my own makers mark and registered with Edinburgh assay office. I sell my Designs at Port Solent market and Andover Farmers and craft market once a month until Covid hit. I now have a Concious Crafties shop, which had been suggested to me by a friend whom also had a shop. Started to learn Dichroic glass fusions. Yes I have the downside with pain and depression but that does not last long when I’m in designing mode and receive wonderful support at CC. I have my sons, I have 8 wonderful Grandchildren and now a wonderful cuddly Great Grandson plus my Arts and Crafts. I am the happiest I have ever been. Onwards and upwards. Hope my story helps others.
