Hello!
I am James, the person behind the shop front :)
I started ‘Adapted James’ back in 2017, during a period where I was mostly housebound due to agoraphobia.
I started out with weighted blankets and adapted clothing, having previously made them for personal use for my ptsd/anxiety, insomnia, and autism-related sensory overloads.
Since then, I have branched out into making sensory toys such as marble mazes and fiddle mats, and personalized disability bears- even ones using magnets to have removable disability aids!
I also now am developing better ways to use weighted lap pads as a wheelchair user, having now had the experience of two very different styles of wheelchair which both need different styles of attachment.
In 2019, I was put forward for two awards due to my work with Adapted James- the ‘Smile of the year’ award, and ‘Pride of Reading’ award.
It’s been a great journey with Adapted James over the years, with my work fluctuating alongside my various chronic illnesses.
