This listing is for a 12mm round ring – but as you can see from the photos, I also have a heart-shaped ring (10x11mm), a 14x10mm oval ring and an 18x13mm oval ring,
All of these mood rings are made by myself by setting a mood stone into sterling silver. Technically a mood stone is not a naturally occurring stone at all but a ‘thermochromic’ (heat sensitive colour changing) liquid crystal protected by clear resin. The mood stones I work with are dramatic – the photos I have uploaded were taken within minutes (even seconds) of each other – you can see the colour changing before your eyes and they are stunning, especially when there is a mix of colours.
I have handmade mood rings in stock in US size 6 (UK size M, circumference 16.5mm) but can make your size to order. Please note that I have listed common sizes but can actually make your ring whatever size you need. Simply add your ring size when ordering. And if you have a special request, please just add it into the box provided.
To create your ring, I begin by making the band for the finger, checking the size before soldering it together. The soldered join is sanded down ready to receive the setting. To make the setting, I fit a silver strip around the mood stone and cut it to fit exactly. The strip is soldered together and carefully molded into the shape of the mood stone. I then gently slip the mood stone out of the strip which is then soldered to a sterling silver back. The backing is trimmed to shape and all the edges are smoothed and the surface cleaned. Next, I solder the ring setting to the band – now that the silver ring is complete, I clean it up and polish it.
The final stage is securing the mood stone into the silver setting. The silver should be tight enough to hold it firm, but I usually add a little glue as well just to be safe.
Ta-Da! Your beautiful mood ring is ready.
