Baltic amber is a fossilized tree resin that was formed during the Eocene epoch, around 40–60 million years ago. It’s found in the Baltic Sea region, with the largest deposits in Russia’s Kaliningrad Oblast.
Baltic amber is a rock-like substance that can be opaque or have a variety of colors, including yellow-orange-brown, white, citrus yellow, brown, black, red, and green.
Baltic amber contains 3–8% succinic acid, which gives it anti-inflammatory properties.
Baltic amber has been used throughout history for a variety of purposes, including:
Medicine: Amber was used to treat various diseases before World War I.
Teething: Baltic amber beads are placed around a baby’s neck or ankle to help soothe teething pain.
Incense: Lithuanian tribes used amber incense to drive away evil spirits and help the soul travel to good spirits.
The silver in my pieces come under the exemption weight, which is less than 7.78g, so therefore, they don’t require a hallmark. Anything over 7.78g, requires a hallmark by law.
