Care for your jewellery

Silver is a natural element created for us by the world we live in, as such it reacts with its environment, especially the moisture in the air and over time it can become tarnished.
This doesn’t mean that your fabulous new piece of jewellery is defective, far from it, it just proves that your beautiful accessory is good quality silver.

It’s quite easy to get your silver jewellery back to its former glory and the earlier you catch the tarnish the easier it is to get rid of it. When tarnish starts to turn any colour from yellowy brown to black you may have to get it professionally cleaned.

You can clean mildly tarnished silver at home with Sterling Silver dips but you do need to be careful! The dips are effective at removing tarnish but equally as effective at removing the colour and polish off gemstones. It’s a good rule not to dip any jewellery with stones and never dipsoft or porous stones like pearls, Sodalite, Malachite, Lapis Lazuli or opals. Remember not to leave your jewellery in the dip too long and don’t rinse it off with cold water otherwise you could find your jewellery gets a white residue which can be as hard to remove as the tarnish.

Remember that prevention is better than the cure 🙂 there are things you can do that will keep your trinkets sparkly for longer. When you take it off wipe it gently with a chemical free cloth and put it away in a sealed plastic box or packet in your jewellery box. Storing some items out of daylight is great too. When wearing your jewellery try to keep them away from household chemicals and cleaning products but also from beauty products like perfume. Your perspiration can also damage your items if left uncleaned.
Never expose silver to rubber, latex or other harsh chemicals. Do not take showers, baths or go swimming in it. Put your perfume, deodorant and make up on before your jewellery.
Getting dressed before you add jewellery will prevent it snagging and breaking or damaging clothing xxx

When I was 23 I had my first 'mini' Stroke, I'm 47 now and I've had thirteen more clots since, despite being on warfarin for life. One of my clots was a series of clots across my brain, the pain started behind my right eye and travelled across the top of my head and down my jugular on the left side of my neck. It took a month to clear them and was almost my last clot episode but I'm harder to take down than that :) The lung clots are worse though but only because of how painful they are and how hard it is to get that breath :) all of the clots I've had have been potentially fatal. Aside from the clots I'm Autistic and struggle with almost all social interactions offline, I've learned to hide it well but struggle with knowing limits and can be insensitive and I quite often 'over share'.  "TMI" is something I am used to hearing.  I am still learning what is socially acceptable to talk about (apparently bowel movements aren't acceptable) but it also means I will happily chat away to strangers anywhere and any time.  Online I am a whizz, fast typing and fast learning means I soak up information (there is no such thing as useless information) and can use it to my advantage.  I strive on being a fact checker wherever possible. Depression is a different kind of beast, I find it hard to talk about, it's only in the last few months that I'm even able to accept it's a real thing and understand that there doesn't need to be a reason for being so sad all the time.  Perhaps I put all my happy feelings into my creations?  I know that everything I make I make with the smile of the person who receives it in my mind. I try so hard to maintain my happy outside appearance but there are days when I wonder if it's worth the effort.  Life would be so much easier if I could just crawl into a space and stay there quietly. My crafting keeps me sane :)
