Hi my name is Mo and I have a serious yarn habbit!!
I was diagnosed with ME in 2000 after suffering a bout of glandular fever. After a few months of work I appeared to have made a full recovery. Fast forward to 2011 and hello aching legs,foggy head and crippling fatigue. Then followed many, many visits to the GP and I received a diagnosis of Fibromyalgia,
At the time I was working full time in a gift and clothing shop, i have had to gradually reduce my hours as I was increasingly unable to manage such a physically demanding role. Lots of unpacking of deliveries and climbing ladders to hang mirrors were typical things that needed doing, not to mention the hours on my feet.
This led to increasing feeling of isolation and depression, I needed something but didn’t know what. A chance window advert led me to joining crochet classes at my local yarn shop and cafe. Best decision I ever made, not only did I learn a new skill but I also made some lovely friends too. I have managed to go from my first attempts at a very wonky mug hug to making some beautiful creations such as bags, blankets and lots and lots of scarves. I have given some as presents and been asked to make a few items too.
As my symptoms have gotten worse my husband has been so supportive and encouraging, now it is my turn to help and care for him as he recovers from a stroke in February this year. I found the crochet has been so therapeutic during this traumatic and stressful time. I have started to share my creations on social media and have had some really good feedback. I hope at some point in the future to create a blog and earn enough to reduce my hour in the shop and concentrate on my creativity and to develop new idea and maybe my own patterns and designs.
So that is me, carer, crafter and fighter.
