Dorset button making is a rural craft, traditionally used to make closures for clothing, but they are generally now made to be worn as pretty and quirky jewellery in the form of a large round brooch (this one is approx 5 cms or 2 inches wide). This one has been embroidered with a mixture of embroidery thread and acrylic yarn, which is wrapped around a wooden ring then across and round the space in the middle, creating a unique picture representing a rainbow seen from a ploughed field with wild flowers in the foreground.
