I have made these festive stud earrings using printed paper sealed under clear glass domes and set in enamelled steel bezels with acrylic stopper backs.
Bezels are lead and nickel free, meaning they are less likely to cause a skin reaction than plated metals, however I cannot guarantee that a reaction will not occur.
Each glass cabochon measures 12mm, and the studs themselves have a total diameter of 14mm.
I started making my own cabochons in 2015 and am entirely self taught. From time to time I will purchase designs and the rights to use them in my jewellery from small scale graphic designers, however unless this is stated in the listing, I have created the image or pattern myself. Once I have created the image, I re-size it using imaging software and re-shape if needed, I then print a batch of each image and make several cabochons by sealing the images under glass using acid-free sealant to protect the image. Once these are starting to set I apply gentle pressure to each cabochon to expel any air and allow the curing process to continue under pressure (usually about 24 hours). Once the batch has finished curing, I hand cut the best cabochons from the sheet, then trim and file them before sealing the back with the same sealant. Once the sealant has cured I am able to set them into the bezels using high quality jewellery glue. This process is usually messy, so once the glue has set I then polish and buff each individual piece before it is ready to be presented to my lovely customers. Each batch of cabochons can take up to a week to complete. Any cabochons which do not meet my high quality standards are either made into “seconds” and sold at a discounted price, or recycled to use in further projects, dependent on the condition of the cabochon.
I can use any image in my cabochons, provided it is not subject to copyright (no Disney, Marvel etc requests please). All I need is a clear, good quality photograph. However, not all images will re-size for all items, please contact me before placing an order to make sure I can meet your requirements. Where an item is double sided (i.e. tree decorations) you can either have the same image on both sides, or separate images.
Custom items currently have a 10-14 day turnaround, although I aim to post as soon as the item is ready. I will keep you informed throughout the process and once the item is posted. Items with names or personal images will be sent signed for at the cost of the buyer. Payment at time of order is required for all custom items.
