I’ve always been a workaholic so after being in a car accident almost 30 years ago, I struggled with knee problems, pins and a metal plate in my ankle, but continued to work for years. Then 7/8 years ago I had an accident carrying stock boxes down three flights of stairs at work and tore ligaments in my right knee. I had to give up full time work but managed to get a great job that I loved at the post office opposite my house. After two years there I fell ill with Cholecystitis and ended up in hospital. This led to a very very long time of not being able to go back to work and eventually an operation 9 months later to take out my Gall Bladder, Gallstones and lost more than half my liver where they had left the op too long and stones had embedded in my liver! Then I got a bad infection after surgery and ended up in bed for 6 weeks! (I know some people wouldn’t mind but I have to say it drove me crazy being so inactive!) Anyway, due to the inactivity I ended up with Osteoarthritis in my joints, Chronic Fatigue started and the DMD (Degenerative Meniscal Disease) worsened to the point that I had to use a stick to walk and I ended up having to finally resign properly from my job. Left with the realisation that I could no longer go out to work I needed to do something to keep myself sane so I started making Jewellery and Gifts to sell online. I donate most of what I make in money to charity and do a lot of Fundraising. I used to make Jewellery and do Craft Fairs and Markets years ago so it was an easy transition and I love seeing the delight on someones face when they fall in love with one of my creations and to know that I have helped a good cause makes it even better.

5 years on, I now need two crutches to walk and the medication has piled on the weight, so I hardly leave the house except for appointments and the occasional visit to Friends and Family, So I have a lot of time on my hands, I find that spending my time Creatively fills my days but as the Arthritis and Fibro effect my hands a lot these days, I only manage to make a few items at a time and refuse to give into the disabilities. My body may be disabled now, but my mind is as healthy and active as it ever was so I will not give in. Despite my issues, I see my conditions are also a positive,  as I always wanted to work for myself, doing something worthwhile with my creative gifts and now I can. I am a published Author and even some celebrities are wearing my Jewellery! Life is what you make it and I see mine as a Blessing… x
