Description
I offer a professional copy-editing service for your written work, including (but not limited to) books, publicity material for your business, and reports. I specialise in educational work, having worked for twenty years as a teacher and Head of Department at leading independent schools within the United Kingdom. I graduated from Oxford University, gaining my MA in Classics (Literae Humaniores), before securing a further post-graduate degree from Cambridge University. I am also an associate of the London College of Music (A.L.C.M.).
A copy-editor reviews a typescript (‘copy’) to ensure that it is correct, coherent, and maintains a consistent style throughout the piece. This can include some of the work done by a proofreader, such as the checking of spelling, punctuation and grammar. A copy-editor picks up on ambiguities, anomalies and errors of omission. The structure of the work can also be analysed for the typesetter.
I have a certificate from Chapterhouse, the publishing trainers, as evidence of my competency in copy-editing. I check your typescript carefully, working to a style guide of your choice and creating a query list for your consideration.
I charge £15 per hour for a copy-editing service, but am happy to quote a flat fee for an entire job if it would suit you better.
I work from hard copy (on paper) and return your work in this format to enable you to correct your electronic copy more easily.
